Why You Need a Sprinkler System Blowout
If your sprinkler system hasn’t been properly winterized before the first big freeze, then your sprinkler system may suffer a devastating freeze. By waiting too long for a sprinkler system blowout, you can invite an expensive disaster.
A frozen sprinkler system can create many problems for the homeowners and make extensive repairs and replacements necessary before the lawn can be watered once again in the spring. Water that remains in the pipes can freeze. As the water in the piping freezes, it expands and breaks the PVC piping – and fittings that hold water. This can have devastating effects on the entire sprinkler system.
But, your problems won’t end there.
At first, you may not realize any difference. The water inside the pipes and backflow preventer will be frozen solid so you will not notice anything. But soon the sun will warm the ground, the water will melt and the potential for flooding will be real.
Many times, the first people to notice are the city water authorities who will detect the large loss of water and send a crew in to shut down the water supply to your property until the issue can be resolved.
A Sprinkler System Blowout Can Avoid These Problems
All this can be avoided with proper sprinkler system winterizing — which includes a sprinkler system blowout.
There is a way to properly prepare your sprinkler system for the cold winter months and it involves properly winterizing the entire system. It will not be enough to drain the pipes or just release water from the system. Without any applied pressure (the blowout), the water in the lines will simply stay there.
This water will then freeze and things will break.
Furthermore, if there is any water in the backflow valve, this can also be damaged in the freeze. This important device is located near the house and it contains some delicate parts that can be easily damaged if the water inside is frozen. Plus, the backflow valve can be an expensive part to replace!
Protecting your backflow assembly from damage is another good reason to winterize your sprinkler system.
Sprinkler System Winterization
Not every sprinkler installation system can provide the same winterizing process we provide. We perform the entire winterizing process for sprinkler systems including the sprinkler system blowout. We have a variety of air compressors to accomplish this process including a large tow-behind compressor, with an output of 200 CFM.
But we only use the pressure necessary to achieve the results we need and it will never damage the sprinkler system.
Furthermore, we can work on the smallest garden sprinkler system or even a very large one with the same ease and effectiveness.
Don’t invite problems with your sprinkler system – have The Lawnsmith blowout your sprinkler system before the weather turns cold!
